Challenge Match Played on Monday Morning.

10/16 Glenn Suffern, the unofficial mayor of tennis at rancho simi park -- a.k.a. "The Playa" challenged Andy Bulles for the cup. This was the second official challenge match for the SVTC challenge cup's inaugural season. The match was well played. Each player broke serve at least once. The final result was a match win for the Mr. Bulles 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 -- who remains the current holder of the cup with two consecutive match wins.

Introducing the "Challenge Cup."

On October 4, 2006, a gutzy, hard played singles match between Dan Chung and Andy Bulles ended with the creation of the Simi Valley Tennis Club Men's Singles Challenge Cup. On October 5th, the first challenge match was played between Dan and Andy. It was a grueling 2 1/2 hour tennis match played with hard-fought intense baseline rallies. The final score was 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-3 with match point won by Andy. The Challenge Cup will be held by Andy until he's defeated by challenger.

Challenge Cup Rules:

1. After joining the SVTC, you may challenge the cup holder at anytime. The cup holder must accept the challenge within 3 days and schedule a challenge match no later than 7 days of a challenge or within 3 days of returning from a business trip or vacation.

2. Should you win the challenge then you would be the new holder of the Challenge Cup. The cup holder should bring the cup to all challenge matches to be given to the match winner should he lose the challenge match. If the current cup holder wins, he continues to keep the cup.

3. All challenge match losers are required to send a $2.00 contribution for each match loss to the SVTC for the annual award and prize fund to be announced during the first week of the 2007 U.S. Open. Your award fund contribution can be given to either Dan Chung, Andy Bulles, or Glen Suffern to be turned-in to the SVTC or it may be sent via U.S. Mail to the address below.

4. The challenger must supply one new can of U.S.T.A. approved tennis balls for their challenge match.

5. All matches are to be played best 2 of 3 sets with standard tie-breaks. USTA Rules apply for all match play.

6. The winner should report his match scores to Mr. Andy Bulles at his email: shailandy@aol.com or by calling his home number: 805-581-5801. Please report your match scores with 12 hours of match end so we can update the blog.

An annual tennis plaque will be awarded to the player who holds the challenge cup through the most match wins in a twelve month year that ends on the day of the U.S. Open finals.

7. Once you join the SVTC Men's challenge cup, you will receive a directory of all participants. The 2007 annual membership fee is $15.00. This fee covers your participation for the Challenge Cup and the SVTC Men's Tennis Ladder (to be announced -- January 2007.)

8. You may join the SVTC at anytime by personally handing your check to any SVTC member at the Rancho Simi Park Tennis Courts during our weekday morning tennis play. Or, you may send your $15.00 personal check to: Mr. Andy Bulles, 837 Country Club Dr. #7, Simi Valley, CA 93065. The check should be payable to: Simi Valley Tennis Club.
